Jammu - Raja Jambu Lochan discovered
Jammu, the ‘land of the fearless' and the ‘land of Gods and Goddesses'
in the 9th century BC. It is popularly known as the "City of Temples'
and it has also been the winter capital of the state of Jammu &
Kashmir It offers the widest diversity of terrain and beauty and the
entire region is pocketed with lakes and valleys.

Pahalgam -
also known as the valley of shepherds, is located 95 kms east of
Srinagar at an altitude of 2,130 meters. It is positioned beside the
Liddar River, in the Liddar valley. It is an exotic tourist destination
with soaring mountains, glistening glaciers, gushing silvery streams of
ice water and dense pine and cedar forests with soft whistling winds and
revitalizing air. It is also an ideal for adventure sports enthusiasts.
It offers wonderful treks, skiing, mountaineering and camping sites.
Sheshnag - is situated at the altitude of 3,570 m from the sea level. Through
spectacular, primeval countryside, and the prime centre of attraction is
Sheshnag, a mountain which inherits its name from its seven peaks,
resembling the heads of a mythical snake. The trip to Sheshnag follows
steep inclines up the right bank of a descend ing
stream and wild surroundings untouched by civilization.
Panchtarni - is
the last halt on the Amarnath Yatra and is 14 Km from Sheshnag. The
journey to Panchtarni is over the Mahagunas Pass, which is 14000 ft or
4276 m high. Pilgrims can then descend to Panchtarni, which is situated
in a valley and can stay overnight in the tented camp in the meadow. A
confluence of five rivers can be seen at Panchtarni. Yatris usually rest
overnight and leave early next morning for the holy Amarnath Cave.
Amarnath - The of the most important event during July/ August, is Amarnath Yatra
to the Holy Pilgrimage. This is an annual event when thousands of Hindus
from different corners of the Globe visit Amarnath caves. The pilgrims
trek from Pahalgam to these caves and worship the great ice Lingam.
Legend has it that Shiva recounted to Parvati the secret of creation in a
cave in Amarnath. Unknow to them, a pair of mating doves eavesdropped
on this conversation and having learned the secret, are reborn again and
again, and have made the cave their eternal abode. Many pilgrims report
seeing the doves-pair when they trek the arduous route to pay obeisance
before the ice-lingam (the phallic symbol of Shiva). This is an event
you certainly will talk about for the rest of your life.
Srinagar - The summer capital of
the state of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar is a beautiful town situated
in the Kashmir Valley. The picturesque Dal Lake, the scenic Mughal
gardens and the Shankaracharya Temple are someof the attractions of
Srinagar town.
Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine is one
of the oldest shrine of India, located at a height of 5300 feet on the
holy Trikuta Hills of the Shivalik Hill Range. The Holy cave is 13 Kms
from the Base Camp Katra. The Town Katra is 50 Kms away from Jammu and
35 Kms from District HQ Udhampur and is linked by road. The Mata Vaishno
Devi Shrine is one of the most popular Shrines of India.
Amritsar - The Sikh Guru, Guru
Ram Das, founded Amritsar, meaning 'a pool of nectar'. It has grown from
a sacred village pond into a spiritual temporal centre of Sikh culture.
Amritsar is the soul of Punjab and today it is India's important
distribution centre of dry-fruits. It is one of the most ancient and
fascinating cities of India. It is also the city where Jallianwala Bagh,
the garden where scores of innocent Indian people were massacred by the
British. Amritsar is an institution by itself.
Wagah Border - The
final frontier, Wagah about 28 kms. from Amritsar is the only border
crossing between India and Pakistan. It's an interesting experience
especially at sunset when the 'Retreat' ceremony takes place with the
BSF on the Indian Side of the Border. The changing of the guards and the
ceremonial lowering of the flags ceremony is carried out with great
pomp.
Kurukshetra- The ancient land of
Kurukshetra is regarded as the birthplace of one of the greatest
religions of the world, Hinduism. It is the land where the sage Manu
penned his 'Manusmriti' and where learned 'rishis' compiled the Rig Veda
and Sama Veda. Kurukshetra, named after the great sage king Kuru, is
also the site of the epic battle of Mahabharata. It was graced with the
visits of Lord Krishna, the Buddha and the Sikh gurus. |
